Dr. Lea Ann Chen

Lea Ann Chen, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Translational Research at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She earned her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, completed her internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, and completed her gastroenterology fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Chen’s clinical work focuses on caring for patients with inflammatory bowel disease, while her research examines longitudinal microbiome dynamics in IBD and how these findings may inform clinical care. Her work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the American College of Gastroenterology, the New York Crohn’s Foundation, the American Gastroenterological Association, and several private and industry sponsors. She is also actively involved in IBD professional organizations, having served as President of the New York Crohn’s and Colitis Organization and Chair of the REACH-IBD committee of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. In addition, she is a member of the Rutgers University Microbiome Program and has received numerous honors, including the Daniel Ford National Housestaff Research Award, the Salix Fellowship to Leadership Award, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation United to Care and Cure Award, and the Sherman Emerging Leader Prize for Excellence in Crohn’s and Colitis.
